Over the past year, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) have gained traction among consumers and developers alike, especially as the market continues to grow exponentially. However, current AR and VR activations mostly include only visual assets, in which the user interacts with visual simulations by physically moving the body. Looking ahead, as new VR headsets with microphones become widely available to the general market, there is an opportunity for developers to infuse something new -- voice -- into the virtual experience to make it more fun and engaging. With voice as the fourth dimension of immersion, developers can now create a virtual world in which users not only physically interact with, but also speak into the headset and see alterations made in real-time. Voice will open new opportunities for developers to get even more creative within the virtual space. During this session, IBM’s Michael Ludden will discuss the lessons he learned with applying voice integration to the Star Trek: Bridge Crew videogame through IBM VR Speech Sandbox. Furthermore, he will offer actionable tips and tricks on how developers can seamlessly add voice into their applications, and provide insight into how the VR and AR experience is evolving with these new voice capabilities.
